Expanded Light Rail Transit (LRT) Adds to Shaw Centre’s Accessibility

LRT (Light Rail Transit) in motion

I may be just a little bit biased, but I like to think of Shaw Centre as being one of the key hubs of the National Capital Region. The recent launch of the O-Train Confederation LRT line has greatly improved travel time for our city’s residents and visitors alike, and we’re delighted to have the Rideau East transit station just 140 metres – a 3-minute walk – away from the Centre. This transit upgrade makes it easier than ever to get to and from our facility and adds to the accessibility and sustainability that have always been at the forefront of the design, construction and operation of our Centre.

We know that many visitors to Ottawa tend to prefer transit or walking to navigate the city. Thanks to the O-Train, the downtown Delta and Marriott hotels are now just a three-stop (or 3-minute) ride away, from Rideau East station to Lyon West station. The Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel is a mere 300 metres, or a 5-minute walk from Shaw Centre.

Other key Ottawa destinations and attractions that are readily accessible from Shaw Centre, thanks to our central location, include:

Parliament Hill: 750 metres (a ten-minute walk)

The National Arts Centre (NAC): 450 metres (a 6-minute walk)

The ByWard Market (Ottawa’s historic downtown shopping and dining district): 750 metres (a 10-minute walk)

The National Gallery of Canada: 900 metres (a 12-minute walk)

The Canadian War Museum: 5 stops away on the O-Train (about 15 minutes including walking time)

The Canadian Museum of History: 2 kilometres (a 25-minute walk or 10-minute bike ride)

Tremblay Road VIA Rail station: 6 km (a four-stop (13-minute) O-train ride; 8-15 minutes by car; 18 minutes by bike)

TD Place (home to the Ottawa Redblacks CFL team, the Ottawa 67’s major junior hockey team, the Ottawa Fury professional soccer team, the Ottawa Farmers’ Market and more): 4 kilometres (14 minutes by bike, 10-25 minutes by car; 25 minutes by transit; 45 minutes to walk)

Ottawa Airport: 14.4 kilometres (40 minutes by transit; 20-40 minutes by car)

Gatineau Park: 17.5 kilometres (15 – 20 minutes by car)
