From May 14 – 18, the Shaw Centre will be hosting the highly anticipated 55th International Making Cities Livable Conference (IMCL). At this event, innovators from all disciplines gather to present different ideas about how to continue to make our cities more “livable” and discuss the importance of shaping them for future generations. The event is also used as a platform to honour different cities and civic leaders for their achievements.
Since its start in 1985, the International Making Cities Livable Conference has primarily focused on making cities more livable for children first and the importance of creating an environment that supports positive physical, social and mental health. The City of Ottawa is expected to present a portion of local content at the conference including talk about efforts to make the city more walkable and the upcoming launch of the LRT line with hopes of highlighting its desire to be a lead example of sustainable, affordable and people focused living.
Ottawa will be the first Canadian city to host the four-day conference. There will be an estimated 300 to 500 participants in attendance from North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

The theme of this year’s conference is Healthy 10-Minute Neighborhoods. There will be awards given based on vision, individual efforts and design with relation to this theme.
